Sea Glass or “Mermaids Tears”
The god Neptune, ruled the sea in Roman times. Mermaids, fairies of the sea, were his maidens. If a mermaid, fell in love with a pirate or sailor, jealous Neptune would banish the mermaid into the depths of the seas. Her tears, borne out of a broken heart, would crystalize and wash ashore as sea glass. The colour of the glass reflecting the colour of the mermaid’s eyes. I find my “mermaids tears” along the rugged coast line of Donegal. Originally pieces of broken discarded glass, the Wild Atlantic tides have shaped each piece over 100s of years.
The pieces of sea glass I use in my jewellery is exactly as I find them, beautifully shaped by The Wild Atlantic Way and set in sterling silver.
